Women's Month: The Feminist Advocacy of Rural India

An invitation by a widow gives a sneak peak into how rural India advocates its own version of feminism. From the myths of misogynist demon-kings to ancient inscriptions showing entire regions ruled by women, the paradox of the gender equation in India leaves more questions than answers. It would never occur to an Indian to debate whether God could be a woman. Or to think it a big deal to have a woman as the most powerful political figure in the land. Yet, we face countless challenges in our efforts for gender equality. In this month of March, dedicated to celebrating women, we ask some relevant questions: Where did we go wrong? How did we get here? And, more importantly, how do we get out of here? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
